  • Cedwyn Scott Joins South Shields

Carlisle United have today announced that forward Cedwyn Scott has joined National League North side South Shields for an undisclosed fee. Scott re-signed for the Blues on a one and a half year contract after joining for an undiscolosed fee from Notts County in January, a deal which would have seen him stay at the club until the 2025/26 season.

It was Scott’s second spell with United, after a brief stint in 2021 following an impressive spell at Hebburn Town. Scott went on to be a standout for Gateshead in the National League North which caught the eye of Notts County, where he scored 15 goals in 39 appearances to help the Magpies in their return to the EFL.

Scott made 11 appearances for the Cumbrians after being brought to the club by previous manager Mike Williamson and netted 1 goal for the club, but despite featuring in several of Carlisle’s pre season friendlies, Scott failed to make the matchday squad for their 2-0 win in the season opener away at Woking and seem to find himself on the periphery of manager Mark Hughes’ plans. Scott joins South Shields under their manager Ian Watson, who worked as part of Williamson’s coaching staff at Brunton Park last season.

What Does This Move Mean For The Player And The Club?

Personally, i feel it’s a shame that the move didn’t work out all in all, Scott has shown himself to be a capable goalscorer and in United’s current setup, he may have found a good deal of joy. For various reasons however, he was never a persistent figure in the team under either Williamson or Hughes and clearly found himself well down the pecking order of United’s forwards after the summer acquisitions of Regan Linney, David Ajiboye and Junior Luamba as well as the return of Luke Armstrong. The move could potentially open up a place in the squad for a loanee from a higher division, a market which Hughes and Carlisle have yet to tap into.

Whatever happens, we at Paddock Perception would like to wish Cedwyn every success at the 1st Cloud Arena and we hope he can rediscover his goalscoring form.
